Coping with the Weather
(Part 2)
Tips to keep on walking even when
it's hot, cold, or inclement weather
Walking
in the Cold
What you wear is evening more
important when it's cold outside. A few tips to keep in mind:
- Wear layers - always a good strategy in the cold. A
moisture-wicking base
layer
will keep you warm and dry.
- Consider a hat
. We lose
more heat from our heads than anywhere else on our bodies. If you're
anything like me, make sure you also find something that covers your
ears.
- Gloves
or mittens
are a
good idea, especially as the temperature moves below freezing. The
great thing about these is that they're easy to carry or stick in a
pocket if you get warmed up and don't need them for the rest of your
walk.
- Here's a good rule of thumb: if you're warm when you go out the
door to start your walk, you're probably overdressed. You will warm up
during your walk, so if you're warm at the start, you're probably going
to be uncomfortably hot by the time you're done.
