The biggest issue when deciding whether
to walk to stores is how to transport your purchases home. When it's
just a handful of items, a sturdy bag or backpack should do the trick.
One of my favorite places is
reuseit.com
(and I especially like the Acme grocery bags). When you have more than
a few things to get
home, an option that might be helpful is a shopping cart. Many of these
fold up, so you can more easily bring them on a bus. A bonus: you
can probably use this as your cart while shopping inside the store, too.
Maybe you would like to do more walking but it seems too far. Or you're
worried about getting caught in the rain or heat or cold or dark and
not being able to get home easily or safely (or dry-ly?). There are
still ways to use your feet more in your daily life.
- Use a bike for destinations that are farther than you can easily
or quickly walk to.
- Split the difference: walk to your destination and ride the bus
home, or ride the bus first then walk home.
